About the Artist

I'm an oil painter that enjoys the challenges of  plein air landscapes and studio still lifes, creating representational works that capture the essence of everyday objects and scenes. My artistic journey began over two decades ago, after a career in design and animation. Although my initial focus was on figurative and portrait painting, I discovered my passion for conveying the beauty and subtlety of my subjects through attention to detail and a deep appreciation for their inherent qualities.

My work is heavily influenced by great American landscape painters such as Willard Metcalf, Edgar Payne, and the Canadian Group of Seven, as well as the French painter Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. Drawing inspiration from my rural childhood experiences, I find beauty in the old farms, thick woods, and rivers that surrounded me.

With a focus on capturing the unique character and spirit of each subject, my paintings aim to convey their essence with delicacy and empathy, allowing viewers to feel a profound connection to the often-overlooked beauty of the world around them. Whether it is the fleeting light on a landscape or the quiet beauty of a still life, my ultimate goal is to inspire people to pause and appreciate the beauty and complexity of the world around them. I live in St. Paul with my dog Maxwell.
